Fly me to the moon

Wednesday March 25, 2009 at 10:44 pm

On Friday March 20th around 11pm, two of my friends and I were waiting for the L train. As we arrived, the subway performer was playing my all time favorite song 'fly me to the moon'. You stood a short distance away bobbing your head to the music and I couldn't help but smile at your light-heartedness. I was visiting from California and for some odd reason your presence felt more familiar to me than most of the other stoic New Yorkers.

I really wanted to purchase the CD that he was selling but the train came too soon and I didn't have any small change. I saw you put in a 10 for the $5 CD and was awed by your generosity. I couldn't help but think that I should have done the same with my last $20 bill. But now that I look back, I'm glad I didn't have change, and I'm glad the train came too soon, and I'm glad that I was rushed on the train because otherwise you wouln't have turned around to give me your copy of the CD and you would have remained to me, just another passer by-er. The only regret that I have now is that I didn't get to thank you. So if we truley are separated by a mere six degrees of separation, I hope that somehow this message will reach you. Thank you so much for being who you are and for spreading positivity around you. I was caught completely off guard when you handed me the CD and you walked away too soon for me to ask your name. But mystery L-train guy, it was a pleasure meeting you and I hope that good fortune meets you for your generous ways.
