Had my two young boys with me (divorced). It was near eleven pm. I was mending the sheep as they slept. You got on and my carriage blocked you. We made eye contact and I felt your soul. You pushed a tourist out of the way to get that spot next to me... I hoped it was because you felt the same attraction I felt. I was so happy you wanted a seat. When you sat the train lurched and you grabbed the stroller and I grabbed you. You fell into me and apologized. For what? We sat too close for strangers, but that is what happens when two hearts race. We talked about where I was that day with kids. You asked beach? I spaced out as you so slayed me as to stop my mind from working. I eventually said Coney Island after admitting I blanked out... For the fireworks. But, said I was at Robert Moses that day too. You said you were going there tomorrow. I said I was walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. I joked that my kids crapped out and I was ready for more. The banter was surreal. Is it you? I don't know you but felt as if you came back into my life. It just felt right. As easy and as natural as breathing. Maybe it was my wishful thinking. You mentioned the extra attachment on the stroller. I would have talked about anything you wanted, just as long as I could feel you next to me. And then we hit 42nd Street and for a moment, you paused and realized you could make a connection on the 4,5. My heart skipped a beat. I wanted to ask why? Couldn't you ride with me? Maybe you thought I was married. Is this how it happens? The woman you dream of comes and goes faster than a swipe of a Metro Card? I said I'd see you around with such certainty and then watched you walk to the other side of the platform. As the doors closed I saw one of the best futures I could imagined close with it. "Stand clear of the closing doors". That phrase will have new meaning from now on, as will the #6 every time it stops at 42nd Street, whether I have my kids or not. I'll look for you and simply remember some of the best few minutes I've ever spent on a subway, or anywhere else for that matter. Most of all, I'll regret not simply asking you to ride the local. The time was between 8:50pm and 9:05pm, March 3rd. I got on at 14th, I think you were already on the train - I got out at 72nd, you stayed on.

We looked at each other a few times, we were both listening to music. You were standing at the back door of one of the front cars on the left side of the train (facing north) - I was near the front door, leaning against the vertical bar. At 72nd, as I was about to leave the train, we looked at each other once again, I said a soundless "bye" with my lips, which made you smile and... and that's it. Damnit... :)

(I was wearing a black hat, a brown jacket, a grey, buttoned shirt, grey jeans, black gloves with the fingers cut off and held my scarf and an umbrella in my hands. I won't include your description, for if you read this you'll remember the situation.)

You are usually on the last or second to last car of the R train and I get on at the 53rd St Station and sit across from you and then get off at the 36th St Station.

I'm usually wearing any number of color combinations, maybe a purple or red coat or a bright white hat, I have strawberry blonde hair. You always have on a nice black coat and a suit and you are usually reading a magazine or playing on your phone. Anytime we make eye contact, we both can't help but give these great big goofy smiles. It's happened about 8 or 10 times over the past 12 months. I just want you to know that seeing you is always unexpected- but it always brightens my day. I love seeing you smile. I'm sure there are lots of guys that wear a nice black suit on the Manhattan bound R in the morning, but only you would really know what I am talking about here.

We were sitting about two people apart on the 'N' friday afternoon, about 6 p.m. on way back getting off at Ditmars Blvd. stop. I first noticed you at Lexington Ave. or Queensboro Plaza cos you had on this cute hipster sorta t-shirt that looked like you could have made it yourself from little clippings of fabric- needless to say, I was pretty captivated and daunted at the same time but should have still said hi to you leaving subway, onto 31st St./Ditmars, but was having trouble with umbrella, being CVS or Duane Reade, aka. crap quality. Couldn't tell if you got on bus at 31st St. or went in to TD Bank to use ATM.
